Is PE material toxic when heated?

October 23, 2023

PE (polyethylene) is another common plastic material that is commonly used to make plastic bags, bottles, containers, insulation, and more. Compared to PVC, PE has a lower risk of releasing harmful substances when heated.

PE itself is relatively stable under normal circumstances. When heated, it usually only releases some non-toxic smoke and carbon monoxide. However, these emissions can also become harmful at extremely high temperatures, so proper ventilation should be maintained when handling PE.

It should be noted that although heating PE does not release toxic hydrogen chloride gas like PVC, it is not safe to inhale the fumes or harmful gases under any circumstances. Therefore, whenever you are heating PE or other plastics, you should take appropriate safety measures, ensure you work in a well-ventilated environment, and avoid breathing harmful fumes.
